A NEW TENT FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.
FROM COMPULSION TO MUTUAL ASSENT.
For three decades, education in America has operated under top-down, test-based mandates. The results are now clear: high compliance, stagnant performance, narrowed curriculum, and educators and families walking away from a system that was supposed to serve them. EAR is a coalition of practitioners, researchers, and policy leaders reconstructing accountability around the mutual assent of students, families, and educators — not compulsion, and it's time to replace it!
01–05 / SYSTEM REFRAME
FIVE PILLARS DETERMINING THE SHAPE OF THE SYSTEM.
01
COMMUNITY TRUST
Trust is a prerequisite for accountability, not a byproduct of it.
02
LEGAL SUFFICIENCY
Test scores aren't the only evidence that can support the legal case for education adequacy.
03
CAPACITY
Capacity for authentic assessment builds over time — it isn't all or nothing.
04
COMPARABILITY
We can compare what matters without reducing learning to a single test score.
05
EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
Authentic evidence that's useful, actionable, and responsive to what students, families, and employers actually value.
